Measure & Quoting
Considerations When Choosing Floor Covering
A List Flooring strongly recommends that you use one of our professional fitters to determine the amount of carpet, vinyl, LVT that is required.
However, if you wish to measure yourself, then please follow the guidelines detailed below.
Measuring a standard room
Measure the widest point across the width & length of the room and then a further 5-10cm for trimming and fitting.
The width of the floor covering varies, with carpet up to 5m and other floor coverings up to 4m. The length of the floor covering varies from 1m to 30m.

Other things to consider
Underlay for carpet will improve the comfort, feel, and longevity. Working the room measurements the square meters required can be worked out.
Large rooms (wider than 5m) will require a joint and we would strongly recommend this is discussed with us before ordering.
Gripper rods are required when fitting carpet with underlay, measuring the wall perimeter and remembering to exclude door thresholds.
Door bars will be required for all doorways, simply measure the number of doorways.
Measuring Stairs
Firstly you would measure the riser (vertical part of the step) then the tread (the flat part of the step). Next, measure the step width and multiply this by the step riser/tread measurement to arrive at the total step measurement. Multiply this figure by the total number of steps and you arrive at the total carpet required.
Gripper rods on stairs must be fitted on both the risers and treads to secure the carpet.
When it comes to winding staircases, mid and top landings and hallways, we again strongly recommend one of our fitters to measure these.
